En el marco de la ciudad occidental, después del Movimiento Moderno, aparece un intento de singularización de los espacios urbanos.
Es característico el diseño de trazados urbanos con geometrías rotundas donde las tipologías se repiten de forma igualitaria. Así aparecen los barrios compuestos por bloques residenciales o bien aquellos compuestos por innumerables viviendas unifamiliares.
Por ello se comienza a huir de la repetición de tipologías urbanas en geometrías que dificultan la diferenciación de los distintos espacios. Además se trata de recobrar el sentimiento de pertenencia al lugar por parte de los ciudadanos intentando singularizar la tipología residencial.
El urbanismo busca la respuesta en el significado de las expresiones culturales en un momento dado (cómic, graffiti, cine, televisión, arte pop…) que responden a esa necesidad de contraste que aparece en la ciudad. Para ello, la imagen buscada es la del decorado escenográfico que sirve de trasfondo a la vida pública.
Las obras serán respuestas en función de cada encargo, momento o lugar. Consiste en un intento por parte del autor de conectar con el gusto de la colectividad a través del empleo de los iconos o imágenes más asumidas.

Following the Modern Movement, the typical planning of western cities is comprised of strict grids within which typologies are categorically repeated. Blocks of residential, office and commercial spaces were built and public space became detached from the rest of the city. With so much repetition blocks and whole neighborhoods become difficult to distinguish from one another often resulting in a disconnect for residents.
In an attempt to overcome these strict grids, planners begin to create difference within the repetition of urban typologies. Design interventions attempt to reinstate a sense of belonging for citizens by creating unique moments within the city.
Planners look for the answer by analyzing the meanings of the cultural expressions of the current time (comics, graffiti, film, television, pop art ...). Their meanings respond to the city´s need for contrast. To this end, the desired image is the scene, the theatrical set that serves as background for public life.
The projects will be immediate responses to the particulars of each case, for each time period and each location. Each attempts to connect with the tastes of the community, generally through the use of icons or images.
